5 Positive thoughts to make 2017 your year
It's the time of year for new beginnings. Now we're not here to condemn you for the excess that was the Christmas season. It was fantastic and we regret none of it! All the same, I still believe that a new calendar year is always a nice time to make a change and here are some of our suggestions for positive thoughts to make 2017 your year!
My resolution for this year (along with learning the geographical location of every country in the world, but that's a different story) is a simple one. To look outward rather than inward. What this means is to stop, slow down and take in the world around, the sounds, sights and smells. There's a big world out there and in the words of Ferris Bueller "Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.". So here's to stopping and looking around.
I know, I know. A new exercise plan in January is about as clichéd as they come but I stand by it nonetheless. Exercise helps reduce stress, boost mood, promote health, keeps you feeling good on the inside and looking good on the outside. Adding more exercise into your life in 2017 is a no brainer. More time outdoors
This was my New Year's resolution last year and one that served me very well. The benefits of getting out in the fresh air are tenfold. Increasing the amount of time I spent outdoors last year benefited me in more ways than one. In addition to the obvious advantages of stress reduction, agreeing to spend more time outdoors also enabled me to see a lot.
Let's make a promise to ourselves and to each other this year to spend less time looking at a screen or through a lens. Let's be mindful of our surroundings. Live in the moment. Take some time to switch off from emails, text messages and social media. In 2017 let's not worry about WiFi access but instead let's make a pact to connect with the earth, with our friends and loved ones and with ourselves.
Don't put it off
How many things have you always wanted to do? How many resolutions have you made every single year but kept putting it off? Whether it's finishing that novel, learning those few words of Spanish or walking the Camino *nudge, nudge, wink, wink* make 2017 your year!
I can guarantee you one thing, you will not regret it.
These are just a couple of positive thoughts to get you thinking for the new year. Do you have any suggestions for positive ways to make 2017 your year? Let us know. If you have any questions about walking or cycling the Via Francigena contact our specialists.
