DAY 3: God's Promise to Abraham; The Story of Sodom and Gomorrah - Genesis 17:118:15; 19:1-29; 21:1-7; 22:1-19
God establishes a covenant with a faithful man named Abraham, promising to make great nations of his descendants. However, at this point, Abraham and his wife, Sarah, are 100 and 90, respectively, and they have no children, so this seems impossible. But God sends messengers to them in the form of three men, who explain that Sarah will indeed bear Abraham a son. After the men visit with Abraham and Sarah, they turn their attention to nearby Sodom, a town full of wicked men and women. They go there and warn Lot, Abrahams nephew, of the coming punishment on Sodom and lead him out of the city just before it is completely destroyed. Later, just as God has promised, Sarah does give birth to a boy, and they name him Isaac. God tests Abrahams faith by asking him to sacrifice Isaac. Abraham is willing to follow through, but the Lord stops him and commends his faith.
