"Gary Dee Attends His Own Funeral" was broadcast the last week of March 1974. Now, 40 years after it aired, the show has such deep impact and even more meaning than it did in 1974. This is a story that is humorous, thought provoking, and serious at times. Nobody suspected what Gary Dee had in mind throughout this series of programs. This story has an ending with a twist, but I won't spoil it for you. Gary Dee Attends His Own Funeral (Pt8) Time check: 5 minutes before 10 O’clock, the ending of Thursday’s program. Gary says tomorrow he will be dropping dead. Gary reads some commercials and promos, and then he signs off with words of wisdom. Those remaining still have time to write your obituary. We begin Friday morning at 5:30 AM with Bob Price reading the news when old “Fearless” begins to let out with some yells of pain, as if he were dying. Gary exclaims he feels dead this morning – and the listeners knew they were in for a spectacular treat, Gary Dee at his best! Bob Price closes the news and the show begins as it has many times before, with Buck Owens’ “My Heart Skips a Beat” This time with Gary kicking into high gear while he sings along and add libbs along the way. Gary claims there is a coffin in the studio and he is sitting on it. As Gary takes calls from listeners he comments on flower arrangements in the studio. One of the staff tells Gary that they are from “Liz” (apparently Liz Richards). Gary talks with Penny Bailey who just concluded her all night shift, which was dedicated to and all about Gary Dee. Penny describes Gary’s appearance. All the time Gary’s callers keep a adding their ingenuity to the program. Finally Gary mentions that Liz Richards from channel 5 sent him some flowers. Gary introduces Bob Price with local news followed by CBS Network News at 6:00AM.
