"Gary Dee Attends His Own Funeral" was broadcast the last week of March 1974. Now, 41 years after it aired, the show has such deep impact and even more meaning than it did in 1974. This is a story that is humorous, thought provoking, and serious at times. Nobody suspected what Gary Dee had in mind throughout this series of programs. This story has an ending with a twist, but I won't spoil it for you. Gary Dee Attends His Own Funeral (Pt17) Finale This is the grand finale of “Gary Dee Attends His Own Funeral”. Here is where it all comes together. Gary's great plan is finally unveiled much to the surprise of everyone. Merle Pollis introduces Mike Betts from The Greater Cleveland Growth Association. Mr. Betts gives Gary Dee a lot of credit for getting people involved and spreading the word about all that Cleveland has to offer. After the final set of commercials a return to Public Square Live (except for Gary, who is supposed to be dead!) Merle introduces the orchestra with some funeral music as the corpse shouts and responds to comments from the crowd. After a brief interlude, Merle Pollis introduces “the deceased” Gary Dee for a final comment. What follows could be defined as Gary Dee's finest moment. Gary gives an eloquent and moving speech, peppered with his own personal brand of humor, about getting people of all nationalities, all colors, all races, and creeds involved, having fun and promoting Cleveland as a great place to work, live, and raise a family. Gary Dee was just 39 years old when this show was broadcast. He would live another 21 years, until his death in 1995 at the age of 60 years old.
